Information Sources

Lest We Forget 12 September 2001

Introduction and Comment

At the moment, the news from the Middle East reflects the attitudes of governments, media organisations and a variety of other organised interest groups.  Keeping that in mind, I have attempted to list a number of news sources that might be of interest to readers.

If there is enough demand I will try to expand this to cover a greater range of sources of interest related to the current conflict.

Israeli Sources

Two excellent newspaper sources are the on-line versions of the Jerusalem Post and Ha'aretz (Jerusalem).  These may be found at:

http://www.jpost.com/

http://www3.haaretz.co.il/eng/scripts/open.asp

Other sites worth looking at are:

http://aish.com

A major "Jewish" site.  Excellent resources and information.  At the moment this site is carrying a great deal of relevant information.  I suggest you take a look at it and particularly at Marshall Roth's excellent articles, "Objectivity and the Media" and "Myths and Facts of the Mideast Crisis."

http://www.ariga.com/

This site is  owned and operated by Robert Rosenberg, a veteran journalist and writer based in Israel. He owns and operates it on his own.  At the present time, you might wish to click on his section for Middle East and Israeli Headlines.

The Jerusalem Report Magazine at:

http://www.jrep.com/

Another magazine style format may be found at VirtualJerusalem:

http://www.virtualjerusalem.com/

which has excellent news coverage via Israel Wire at:

http://www.virtualjerusalem.com/israelwire/

For a more "official" view, try the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs at:

http://www.mfa.gov.il/mfa/home.asp

The Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations  includes information and updates about the Peace Process, arms control, and human rights.

The Palestinian View

Palestinian views can be garnered from a number of sites.  Remember, these reflect the views that are presented, on a daily basis, to the Palestinians.  An official site is that of PLO Negotiations Affairs Department.  This site seems very slow to load so if you want to see it, be patient.

http://www.nad.gov.ps/

Another Palestinian website is that of the Palestinian National Authority which is located at:

http://www.pna.net/

This site also provides excellent links to other Palestinian websites.

The Website of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the UN - includes history, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the Middle East Peace Process, and resources.

Jewish Right-Wing Views

Let's be honest, not all of the nasty stuff comes from the Arabs and the PLO.  There are those who claim to support Israel who represent the most xenophobic of positions.  For those interested, take a look at a website styled, Israel at the Crossroads which is part of the Rabbi Meir Kahane Webring.

Other Sites of Interest

An index of statements and information on the Middle East Peace Process may be found at the U.S. Department of State: Middle East Peace Process Website.

http://www.state.gov/www/regions/nea/peace_process.html

For a collection of the United Nations documents relating to the question of Palestine and the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East since 1947 go to:

http://domino.un.org/UNISPAL.NSF

If you are interested in Jewish Americans, a particularly useful site is the Jewish American Hall of Fame which is found at:

http://amuseum.org/jahf/

Several of you have sent me articles recently by Joseph Farah, a Palestinian American who writes cogently on the situation in Israel.  Rather than post these (and risk problems with copyright) I am including a link to his site, at:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com

If you read no other article, might I suggest you take a look at his article, Myths of the Middle East, which tries to tie down the truth/fiction of competing claims in that troubled area.  Go to the site archives for a list of other articles by Farah.
